Raymond F. Hamel, Jr.
Raymond F. Hamel, Jr. comes to his assignment at G.T. O’Brien, Inc. as the founder of two highly successful companies. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Hamel has had extensive, hands-on experience in business concept development, sales force management, domestic and international marketing, advertising, accounting, corporate finance, business law and government regulation.
Most recently, Mr. Hamel co-founded Pure Encapsulations, Inc., in 1991. Pure matured from a two-person, “virtual” company to become an industry leader in non-prescription pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and contract manufacturing. At the time of its sale, it employed 75 scientists and manufacturing professionals, with sales of $21 million. Mr. Hamel was the architect of a brand positioning program that made Pure Encapsulations the #4 best-selling line of physician-dispensed nutraceuticals in the U.S., and the #1 U.S. manufactured line in Germany and Austria. Pure was acquired by an international biotech conglomerate in 2004 for $50 million.
Previously, Mr. Hamel was the President and Publisher of Doctor’s Mart. In this capacity, he created several magazine titles for the primary care physician market. The target market for the publications (which derived 95% of revenues from advertising) included: pharmaceuticals, single-use rapid diagnostic tests, medical imaging, general medical instrumentation, financial and investment services and luxury travel and goods. Mr. Hamel’s publishing company was sold to a larger competitor in 1988.
As a successful entrepreneur, Mr. Hamel is keenly aware of the particular concerns that founding owners have when contemplating the sale of their company. He brings an “owner’s” perspective to the often confusing, emotionally-charged processes involved in the preparation, marketing, pricing and negotiation of a successful transaction.
Mr. Hamel is also a respected management consultant, specializing in strategic planning, sales force management, sales generation, and profit optimization. These are critical areas to be considered for the maximization of founder/shareholder value in the context of a stock or asset sale.
